Nov 01,2024What Is The Pneumatic Globe Valves?
Pneumatic Globe Valves are versatile valves capable of controlling flow in most any application. Their quick opening and shutoff times make them popular choices in water and steam systems, fuel oil heaters, induction furnaces, cooling ducts and part washers; furthermore these valves can be managed manually via handwheel or for industrial settings through electrical actuators.
Globe valves consist of three primary parts: the disc or plug element, valve seat and body assembly, and packing/bonnet assembly. Operation is accomplished via rotating its threaded stem via handwheel/valve actuator to raise or lower disc from seat - creating a seal to regulate passage of fluid through valve.
Globe valves feature a disc that sits at the center of their valve seat with its opening centered around it, with their seat opening located symmetrically around them. Their seat surface and disc is meticulously machined for full bearing surfaces to withstand erosion from flowing liquid. Common seating materials for Globes include cast or hardened bronze materials while special seat designs may also be available depending on application needs. Variations on this design typically revolve around different disk designs being employed; ball, composition or plug type designs provide more effective flow-throttling capabilities than either ball or composition designs do; each design provides full bearing surfaces against erosion caused by liquid flowing under pressure against an opposing force from flowing liquid against an opposing force from flowing liquid flowing under pressure from flowing liquid forces than either ball or composition designs would.
Globe valves typically have seats which are aligned with or inclined towards the line of flow, to prevent cavitating pockets from forming within constricted regions that could damage components such as valve seats. Unfortunately, however, this configuration also causes incoming streams to bypass their circular orifice and increase headloss when fully open conditions exist.
Valves that require high differential pressure throttling feature specially-designed seats and discs to prevent erosion by the incoming stream from damaging mating faces. Globe valve bodies typically consist of cast iron or steel; other materials may also be utilized depending on application requirements.
A bonnet is often installed on valves to protect their packing from corrosion and freezing in colder applications, or from overheating in hotter ones. Furthermore, an extension bonnet may also be added for protection in cases with frequent or heavy operating pressures.
Positioners for Pneumatic Globe Valves are essential in monitoring its status, providing accurate signals to actuators, and accurately positioning valve discs. Without such devices, manual operation could result in misalignments between disc and seat which allows uncontrolled opening or closing of valve.
